History of Doi Mae Salong

Doi Mae Salong was a prohibited and fearful area in the past because it was a battleground for the soldiers who migrated here. However, because this was a settlement for the migrants, there are a lot of Chinese people here. It is also the top area for growing tea, which brings in Chinese culture, food, and various traditions.

Temperature: The average temperature per year is between 15-20 degrees Celsius. During the coldest months, December-January, the temperature drops to 4-6 degrees Celsius at night. During the hottest month, April, the temperature ranges from 25-32 degrees Celsius. The weather is cool, not too hot or too cold, between June-November with temperatures from 15-20 degrees Celsius.

Traveling

  • By car: 2 routes

    • From Chiang Rai, turn left at Mae Chan towards Route 1089, pass the Pong Phra hot spring, and arrive at Kew Sa Tae intersection. Turn right and go up Doi Mae Salong for about 15 km

    • Take Route 1 through Mae Chan to Mae Sai, and at the 9 km junction, turn left and go up Doi for 16 km

  • By plane

    Arrive at Mae Fah Luang Airport, hire a car or motorbike, or take a taxi to visit Mae Salong Park

  • By bus

    Arrive at the old bus station in Chiang Rai, take the green minibus to Mae Sai, or take a van to Mae Loei at the Mae Chan market
